The #1 Resource for aussie gambling!

Australian Online Blackjack Sites

With a large variety of blackjack games available at Australian online casinos, we have the ability to hunt down the most player-friendly games with the lowest house edges, which in many cases is less than 1%. Here, we outline the best online casinos for Australians to play free and real money blackjack.

Blackjack is, by far, one of the most popular table games that you will find at a casino, whether it is online or at a land-based casino. The history of blackjack goes back so far that there is no known date for its origin, although it was referred to in Miguel de Cerventes’ classic novel, “Don Quixote”, which was first published in 1605. You might also hear it called “21”, as the point of the game is to get as close to the total of 21 as you can, while beating the dealer. Even with its different variations, the simplicity of blackjack makes it attractive to players of all skill levels.

Be sure to read over the terms and conditions of these bonuses in order to take full advantage of the offers. Additional promotions are also offered, including loyalty programs and weekly and monthly cash prizes and giveaways.

Can You Play 21 on Mobiles & Tablets?

Yes. The mobile gaming industry is growing at a rapid rate and online casinos are taking full advantage of this booming gambling platform.

We have made sure to diversify our online gaming platforms, so Australian players have access to a variety of the best blackjack and other online casino games on their mobiles and tablets. Other providers constantly growing larger and stronger include BetSoft, Net Entertainment (NetEnt), NextGen Gaming and more. Plenty of titles are offered by our complete range of casinos, including favourable games such as Double Exposure (where both dealer cards are exposed). Audited regularly by independent accounting companies, each online gaming software developer upholds the best standards in Internet gaming.

How Can I Access Blackjack Casino Games?

You can choose to download the entire casino suite on to your computer – a very simple task with step by step guidelines available. Casino software downloads are available at Royal Vegas, 7 Sultans, All Slots and Casino-Mate. Mobile gamers, tap the Royal Vegas Casino app icon displayed above to download blackjack app software to your device.

Once you’ve decided which option is right for you, you only need to use the one username and password to access your account across all mediums and modes – so if you are playing online on your Acer laptop, then decide you’d rather install the software, or switch over to playing on your Samsung Galaxy mobile, iPad or Blackberry, all of your account information, real cash credits, loyalty points and settings will be available to use on any device and through any playing method.

Live Dealer Play

Where Can I Play Live Dealer BlackJack?

Ignition Casino
Ignition Casino puts you right in the middle of the online blackjack experience. Not only can you see your dealer, but you have the option to play in some high-stakes games if you’re up for it.
Kahuna Casino
There is no shortage of options in the Kahuna Casino live-dealer casino, where there are over 20 tables you can play at. Powered by the impressive graphics that come from Evolution, you absolutely will be able to find a game at Kahuna Casino.

The newly developed world of live dealer gaming has proven to be well-received, and because of the popularity, it is a market constantly advancing. Taking the convenience and efficiency of computer-generated blackjack, and adding live streams of human croupiers controlling the game, players can now bet online and follow all the action via live video feeds of interactive blackjack dealers calling all the shots.

The style of game-play is akin to regular 21 played online, but these games now include video feeds to enhance the player’s experience, with results determined by actual humans, rather than RNGs; we watch the croupiers deal the cards and shuffle the deck so there can be no complaints about the possibilities of cheating or rigged game-play.

Browse our live dealer page for more info about how such games work, and where to play them.

Odds & House Edge of 21

The house edge and odds of a game of 21 depend on the rules implemented, ranging from the number of decks used (fewer is better), to what the player is and is not allowed to do. Finding games that offer the best odds is the best strategy to have when playing online blackjack, and using online casinos make it easy to do so.

Consider the following rules for a game of 21:

  • Eight decks used (an eight-deck shoe)
  • Dealer stands on all 17s
  • Players can double after splitting
  • Players may re-split up to four hands
  • Players can hit on split Aces
  • Player cannot re-split Aces
  • Surrender is not allowed
  • Blackjack pays 3 to 2
  • Players lose only their original bet against a dealer blackjack

This game has a house edge of approximately 0.25%, and would be one of the best Internet variants available. Casinos can make dozens of rule changes to help or hinder the player’s advantage, so here is a quick look at the most common good and bad rules for the player:

Good Rules for the Player

Using a single deck
The fewer the number of decks, the better for the player, and a single deck is as good as it gets. This will reduce the house edge by 0.48%; unfortunately, single deck games are often accompanied by poor rules, meaning single deck games are often tricky to evaluate. Even using a two-deck shoe is great for the player, reducing the house edge by 0.19%.
Allowing players to draw to split Aces
If you can actually play split Aces, rather than being drawn one card for each hand, and one card only, this improves your odds by about 0.19%.
Late/Early Surrender
If surrendering after the dealer checks for blackjack is an available option, the proper use of this rule can reduce the house edge by 0.08%. Much rarer is early surrender, where you can give up half a bet before the dealer checks for blackjack; this rule reduces the house edge by around 0.24%.

Bad Rules for the Player

Short Pay on Blackjack
There is nothing worse than getting 6 to 5 on a blackjack instead of the normal 3 to 2 odds. This rule alone increases the house edge by 1.39%.
Dealer Hits on Soft 17
Hitting on a soft 17 carries little risk, and is more often than not the ‘correct’ play. But many games will force the dealer to stand on such a hand. However, if the dealer is allowed to hit on a soft 17, the house edge increases by 0.22%.
No Doubling Down After Splitting
If you are not allowed to double down after splitting, this increase the house edge by 0.14%.

Strategy to Follow When Playing Online

The following are basic and ideal guidelines to follow when playing 21 on the Net. However, in games such as Double Exposure, where both of the dealer’s cards are shown, such strategy is not necessary, as you know what you need to do based on what the dealer is showing.

Hard Hands

A hand without an Ace, or with an Ace which must be counted as one point.

  • Always hit with a total of eight or less.
  • With a total of nine, double if the dealer shows a Trey, Four, Five or Six, otherwise hit.
  • With a hand total of 10 or 11, double if the dealer shows a card lower than your hand value, otherwise hit.
  • With a hand of 12-16, hit if the dealer shows a Seven or higher, otherwise stand.
  • With a hand of 17-21, stand.

Soft Hands

A hand with an Ace which can act as one or 11 points. The player cannot bust by hitting a soft hand.

  • With soft hands of 15 or less, always hit.
  • With soft hands of 16-18, double down if the dealer is showing a Six or less; otherwise hit.
  • With soft hands of 19 or more, always stand.

Pair Hands

Choose to split based on the following rules:

  • With Aces or Eights, always split.
  • With Fours, Fives or Tens, never split.
  • With all other pairs, split if the dealer is showing a Six or less.

Also: Never take insurance, hit if unable to double down, and play the hand according to its normal value if unable to split.
